Meet the Team at Harshman Services
All of our team members are Christians—most of us Eastern Orthodox Christians—though that’s not a requirement for being an independent contractor for this company. Most of us live with disabilities and have homeschooled our children. Not every team member is on this page, but here is a representative sample.
Age three was a big year for Jennifer Harshman. That year, she taught herself to read and write, and she hasn’t stopped since. She’s read more than 17,650 books, and because she reads more than 10 million words a year, adds to that figure almost daily. Jennifer bore the label “twice exceptional” along with severe abuse, but has brought good out of it all. Combining these and other factors with such an immense number of books read gives her a unique ability to be the bridge between writers and readers. She coaches and consults with subject-matter experts, communicators and other leaders, entrepreneurs, authors, and publishers so they can get helpful writing out into the world where it can do more good. Jennifer began editing professionally in 1992, has edited tens of thousands of pages, and now serves as a writing and publishing expert for publishers and independent authors alike. Jennifer’s email address is Jennifer at HarshmanServices.com
Child author Joel Michael Harshman began reading at age four. He moved to reading Shakespeare and playing chess at age seven, and wrote his first book when he was nine years old. Homeschooling gives him opportunities other children don’t have, partly because he has a writing and publishing expert for a mother/teacher. Joel Michael doesn’t let being on the autism spectrum keep him from being successful. Interested in IT and the writing/publishing field, he will eventually take over leadership of the family business. He can be contacted at Joel at HarshmanServices.com
Jannette Isaacson is a homeschooling mom of four. She taught herself to read before she entered school. Her parents could never keep enough books for her, so she was very happy when they moved just a block from a library. She began writing stories in second grade. While Jannette wrote many stories, good and bad, she learned editing skills from some really good teachers. She put her skills to use in college and helped write resumes and job applications for seniors. Now Jannette helps her kids write their stories. Contracting for Harshman Services came about naturally as she talked with longtime friend Jennifer Harshman about writing and editing. Jannette creates graphics for our social media, serves as an author liaison, and handles other things as needed. Contact Jannette at Assistant at HarshmanServices.com
Tricia lived a majority of her life with the proverbial mental red pen. She was the grammar witch—the go-to gal—when anyone in school or at work needed help with papers or applications. As Tricia entered college, she had a passion for social work and began working in healthcare after obtaining her master’s degree. She loved her job; at the same time, she wanted to be home with her kiddos, and she knew there was something more she was called to do.
After Tricia had been serving as a life coach for a period of time, Jennifer called her out. “Hey, dummy,” Jennifer said, “you’re a born editor. So do it!” (Okay, she didn’t call Tricia a dummy. She’s much more loving and respectful than that.) Jennifer then took Tricia under her wing and has since been teaching her the ins and outs of freelance editing. It’s the perfect blend of a friendship and mentorship.
Tricia now serves as editor and virtual assistant for the Harshman Services team. She has other clients as well. Being a part of helping writers create something amazing is both humbling and exhilarating. Tricia is stoked to earn a living helping others with the gift God has given her. And she’s super thankful that Jennifer helped her get to where she is.
Tricia is married to the best husband and dad ever. Editing and VA work allow her to work at home (woohoo!) so she is able to be with her two awesome kiddos, Margaret and Charles. She and her husband Jeremy plan to (ideally in the not-so-distant future) RV the states as they unschool their kiddos. Her email is Tricia at HarshmanServices.com

Adriane Adams is a published children’s book author who started proofreading and copy editing in 2000. During her college studies, she worked as an English and ESL tutor, often assisting university students with their writing assignments and research papers. She also completed courses in Creative Writing and Advanced Grammar & Usage in graduate school, which she has put to good use. One of the bonuses we offer is what we call “a test read” or “a normal read.” That’s a task for an eagle-eyed, non-editor reader, the kind of person who says, “Typos just jump off the page at me.” Our test readers read a book right before it goes back to the author. The goal is to spot any remaining errors and get the book even closer to perfection.
