Content repurposing service—what is that? First, I should explain what repurposing content is.
Repurposing content
Repurposing content is making your content work harder for you by turning it into some additional pieces of content that are a little different than the original piece you created. Think about placing a printed page into my magic copier. Let’s say it’s the transcript of your podcast episode, or a chapter of your book. You press the button, and out comes a neat and organized PDF you can use as a lead magnet or other giveaway item. You press the button again, and out shoots a blog post (or five, or even ten) for you to use, all from that one episode or chapter. You press the button again, and the machine produces several pages of social media posts related to that same topic.
Reusing content to save time and money
Saving time and money are two good reasons to reuse your content. You don’t have time to sit there all day every day creating new content to reach your beautiful people. You have to have time to serve them in other ways, too. So taking something you’ve made and reusing it in a few (or several) ways is just smart. Some people consume content in audio/video format and never really read anything (you’re not one of them, obviously). Others prefer the written word. Perhaps they read faster than any video or podcast episode can be played, and for that or some other reason, they prefer to consume their content through reading. Reach different people via different formats.
Repurposing content for seo
Another great idea is repurposing content to give your SEO a boost. Just be sure that you alter the content, and by a significant amount. Don’t just duplicate it. Duplicate content is penalized by the search engines. It damages your ranking, which defeats the purpose.
Article spinning
For those who don’t know what article spinning is, I’ll tell you. It’s using a software program to change some of the words in an article or webpage to synonyms or other words that supposedly work in their place. As you can imagine, the result is a mess.
Please don’t use an article spinner. Spinners are for salads. Those tools just create word salad, and that serves no one. You want to serve your readers well by giving them high-quality content.
Ways to repurpose content
Here are a few ways to repurpose content to make your creations work harder for you.
- Break a large piece of content into sections by chronology or by topic.
- Use a sentence or two as a jumping-off point for a new post.
- Repurpose content for social media by breaking it into update-sized bites.
How to repurpose video content
To repurpose video content, you could take excerpts (clips) from it, and have a series of short videos. These can be helpful on your website or YouTube channel if you’d like to create short pieces that each explain one aspect of something, or how to do one part of something. Another way you can repurpose video content is to transcribe the entire video, and turn that transcript into blog posts and social media posts.
Repurposing social media content into blog posts is going in the other direction. For most people, this is much harder to do. It requires planning and foresight, and most people just don’t plan out their social media posts ahead of time with a complicated outline. They post spontaneously, which is what was intended for social media.
Content repurposing examples
This post has given a few content repurposing examples. We can turn a video or audio file into several forms of written content. We can also go the other direction and turn a book into an audiobook. You deserve to have content that works as hard as you do (no, harder).
