More and more people are discovering that adult coloring helps with writing. It is a great stress-reducing activity that can allow our brains to quiet. Like meditation, coloring allows us to quiet the many thoughts constantly chittering in our heads, and that helps to alleviate anxiety. You can find tranquility in coloring an image.
Once your brain is calmer, you may actually find the answer to the problem you had running through your mind. You may see the next step your character should take in the story. You may find a way to transition from the current section of your writing to the next section you wanted to get to. You may come up with a whole new idea to write about.
A calm, tranquil brain has a better ability to think and reason.

Coloring activates both parts of the cerebral hemisphere, using both logic and creativity. We use logic to pick the color we want to use. The actual act of coloring uses the creative side. It also incorporates the areas of the cerebral cortex which control vision, coordination, and fine motor skills. Using multiple areas of the brain helps us to have better creativity and problem solving overall.
