3 recommended books on quotations
I’ve recommended books on quotations for years because usually the authors or editors of these books put some effort into researching the quotations to be sure that they are properly attributed. That means they make sure the person they are saying is being quoted is actually the person who made the statement. Too often, on the internet, we see things that are misattributed. Some things cannot possibly be correct, because the person was dead long before the topic existed. Some joke memes have resulted because of that, like this one:
Every respectable writer wants to be sure the quotations they’re using are correct. I have recommended books on quotations, including these, with confidence that they did their research so you don’t have to. Who wants to conduct original research just for quotations?
