As a child and young adult with ADHD living in constant survival mode, I wasn’t skilled at planning ahead (and that is the understatement of the year). Even planning for the day in front of me seemed impossible sometimes. Coping with a hundred things in a row as they came at me, though . . . I excelled at that. But life lived well requires preparation.
At some point I realized that “everyone else” had the ability to think ahead. They knew what was coming. That allowed them to plan for things. It was like some magical ability. I worked hard at learning how to do that. Over the years as I worked on that and devoured thousands of books, I came across many bits of wisdom. For example, successful people plan their calendars a month ahead of time, and ultra-successful people plan an entire year in advance. Scheduling every aspect of life a year in advance would be difficult (and ridiculous), but scheduling work a year ahead of time is fabulous. At the end of each year, I set about to fill in any remaining slots for the coming year. I started doing this in 2014, and it’s worked so well that I don’t anticipate changing the practice.
Some of my clients are prolific authors and they book me for certain repeat slots far ahead of time. J. Evan Johnson, for example, owns my month of June for the next several years. Some other months have at least one slot purchased ahead of time, too, but there’s room for more than one each month, especially because I have help now.
Get your book edited
Every December, I post on social media (and will do so here, too, from now on) that it’s time to book your slot for next year if you want to get your book edited by HarshmanServices.com Immediately, several months fill up. By the time the new year begins, eight to ten months are full.
It’s that time of year again. Plan ahead to get your book edited by scheduling a slot with me now. If your book isn’t finished by the time your slot rolls around, it’s okay. We can move it a bit, but it’s far easier to move things around on the calendar than to try to fit in a book when the calendar’s already full.
Email Jennifer@HarshmanServices.com with “Edit my book” in the subject line, and let’s talk. As you can see, only five months remain open—and I haven’t even posted on social media yet!
Peace be with you.
